Ever since its first race in 1903, the Tour de France has captivated millions of viewers worldwide. The race, which covers more than 2,200 miles and lasts a staggering three weeks, is filled with world-famous names.

We take a look at the race and the eye wear choices of one of its most famous participants.

The New York Times has previously said the Tour de France is the most physiologically demanding of athletic events. Race contestants have to be in the peak of physical condition in order to get through the many stages of the gruelling race. And that’s exactly what we’ll be investigating: a top athlete in the form of Lance Armstrong.

Lance Armstrong

Former professional road racing cyclist Lance Armstrong has made headlines numerous times in recent years. Before his cancer diagnosis in 1996, he had already won two Tour de France competitions, and he had the eyes of the cycling world focusing on him. Having beat cancer in 1998, Lance went on to win a further five Tour de France competitions and in 2005 he announced his retirement from the sport.

Lance Armstrong started the Lance Armstrong Foundation in 1997 which helps people affected by cancer, empowering them to take a stand against the deadly disease. The bright yellow LIVESTRONG wristband is worn all over the world and is a symbol of hope for many.

Style choices of the famous cyclist

Sport sunglasses brand Oakley work in conjunction with Armstrong to produce a range of glasses – and even a timepiece – emblazoned with the LIVESTRONG mark. Lance Armstrong states that “Oakley has always been there for me on and off the bike” and he actively wears the brand’s products both in training and outside of it.

This image of him in the Oakley Jawbone LIVESTRONG sunglasses above highlights the LIVESTRONG theme with the yellow and black branding. These sunglasses are great for cycling and are an obvious choice for Lance Armstrong.

These Oakley Scalpel LIVESTRONG sunglasses follow the yellow and black trend in the range and you can instantly tell Lance Armstrong helped design the range; he looks great in these sunglasses, yet another pair he chooses to wear both on and off the bike.

Lance Armstrong is a true legend in the cycling world and has come back and fought through hard times with his cancer battle to then win another 5 Tour de France titles. His determination is admirable and we celebrate him!
